Along the way we were taken to a lot of gift shops. Many were attached to some small craft demonstration shop, but most of them had a large selection of all types of stuff.

Cloisonné

wpe28.jpg (61248 bytes)Cloisonné is a French word meaning "partitioned". The major production of this art form seems to be in the Beijing area.

Cloisonné is made by attaching thin copper dams to the surface of a vase or other object

The resulting finish has bright, long-lasting colors separated by thin lines of copper which is polished and coated.

Jade
