We first visited Christ Church Cathedral, the smallest Cathedral in England. It's still bigger than a lot of Episcopalian Cathedrals. ccco07.jpg (64743 bytes)
It has been built, partially torn down, rebuilt, added to, restored and improved until you get dizzy looking at all of the styles. ccco03.jpg (125676 bytes)
But if you don't try to analyze it, just accept it as the result of God's people finding ways to glorify Him, you find a beautiful, and interesting place of worship. ccco01.jpg (126499 bytes)
Glass from various periods tells its stories. ccco04.jpg (220781 bytes)
In places, the coloring that was typical of medieval gothic has been preserved. ccco05.jpg (137344 bytes)
Saint Frideswide is still venerated at her resting place. ccco06.jpg (108619 bytes)
A very grand staircase leads up ... ccco08.jpg (75886 bytes)
... to the great hall of Christ Church College. ccco09.jpg (145929 bytes)
ccco10.jpg (150896 bytes)As everywhere, beautiful gardens set off the historic buildings. ccco11.jpg (114476 bytes)

DCP02766.JPG (94147 bytes) ... then we went to the Bodelian Library, where Marie paused for our obligatory librarian picture.

DCP02772.JPG (84260 bytes) ... and then the rest of the academic establishments.
