Brittany
is the western tip of France, the Celtic area. It was one of the last areas to
be incorporated into modern France. For many years Breton heritage was
suppressed, but there is now a strong movement to preserve their unique culture.
The Breton flag is seen
everywhere and the Breton language is making a comeback.
We spent a week in Dinan, taking side trips to various areas of Brittany.
One
of our favorite aspects of Breton culture was the food. Crêpes and sparkling
cider were always available and delicious. They do wonderful things with
seafood. The scenery was beautiful, the people friendly,
but the weather was a bit gray. We had two days of solid rain, the only ones on
the whole trip.
