We were driving along, and on the map Coutances looked like a good place to take a break. The map couldn't tell us that it was a city perched on a hill overlooking a river with a view towarsd the bay of Mount St. Michel. Nor could it tell us about the magnificent cathedral and the beautiful public gardens. The town was all decorated for their annual "Jazz under the Apple Trees" festival.

The central chapel has beautiful windows and a famous statue of Our Lady of Coutances.
