Scotland has a long a bloody history of its relationship with England. It only ended when the two kingdoms ended up with the same king: James the First of England was also James the Sixth of Scotland.
The two stops we made in Scotland reflected the different cultures that have fashioned the Scotland of today. The Shetland Islands celebrate their Viking heritage, while cosmopolitan Edinburgh blends the rugged Highland Celtic tradition with the pomp of the British monarchy.
