Shoppers Paradise

The Ninth Arondissement contains the Opera, part of the financial district, and most important, the Grands Magasins (Department Stores): Au Printemps and Galeries Lafayette. Paris has other department stores, such as La Samaritaine, Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville, Magasins RéunisLe Bon Marché, and Les Trois Quartiers, but these two are the biggest and carry the high end products. (It looks like some of the ones from my past have passed away - sigh.)

Galeries Lafayette

At the corner of the Boulevard Haussmann and the rue Lafayette stands the flagship store of the largest department store chain in Europe, the Galeries Lafayette. The building has a huge atrium under a stained-glass dome.

The dome is protected by a glass roof

From the roof of the store you can see Sacré Coeur ...

... the back of the Opéra Garnier ...

... the roof of the Madeleine, the Grand Palais, and the Eiffel Tower.
